Marcelina Obarska graduated from theatre studies at the Jagiellonian University and accomplished a postgraduate gender studies degree at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her MA thesis on animals in Romeo Castellucci’s theatre was awarded the third award in the annual contest for the best MA thesis in theatrology, organized by the Theatre Institute in Warsaw.
She is currently working on her PhD thesis about representations of abortion in Polish theatre after 1918. She has published about the history, theory and critique of performing arts in such journals as “Dialog”, “Didaskalia” and “Performer”. As a dramaturge she has collaborated with directors in several theatres in Poland, i.a. Nowy Teatr, Teatr Ochoty and Teatr Dramatyczny w Wałbrzychu. Since 2018 she has been an editor and an author of the „Theatre and Dance” section in Culture.pl magazine published by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. Co-author, with Karol Gromek of Historie dotyku [Touch stories], was published in 2023 by słowo/obraz terytoria.
She is interested in contemporary ontological theories, text performativity, archives, football and weightlifting.
