Wojciech Dudzik is Full Professor of Cultural, Theatre and Performance Studies at Institute of Polish Culture. He has researched the history and theory of 20th and 21st century theatre and anthropology of performance (especially carnival). His research interests also include Polish-German cultural contacts.
He is the author of over 200 academic publications, including 8 monographs, 4 anthologies (including one in German), co-editor of 2 academic textbooks, translator from German (including the works of Hermann Hesse). Recent works include the anthology Paradoksy maski [Paradoxes of the Mask, 2018] and the monograph Maska w kulturze współczesnej Europy. Teorie i praktyki [Mask in the Culture of Contemporary Europe. Theories and Practices, 2020].
Recent academic projects include leading an National Science Centre grant on “Mask in the Contemporary Culture of Europe” (2015–2021) and participating in the NPRH grant on “Recovered Avant-Garde. Polish and Central European Theatrical Avant-Garde” (2021–2023).
Organizational activities:
- Head of the Theatre and Performance Section at the Institute of Polish Culture (2009–2020).
- Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Polish Studies for the development of academic staff (2016–2024).
- Elected member of the Council of the Institute of Polish Literature at the University of Warsaw (2012–2024).
- Senator at the University of Warsaw (since 2020).
- Member of the Polish Committee of Cultural Studies at the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 2011).
- President of the Polish Society for Theatre Research (2012-2024)
- Member of the Polish Society of Culture Studies.
- Member of the International Hermann Hesse Society.
