Zofia Dworakowska holds a Ph.D. in cultural studies. She is an anthropologist of culture, theatre studies scholar, researcher of different forms of cultural participation, socially engaged art and issues connected with qualitative methodology. In the years 2009-2019 she was the Head of the Culture Animation specialization. Now, she is the Head of the Social Arts Master studies program and the co-leader of the Theatre Pedagogy Postgraduate studies program.
She has edited: CZ/PL. Theatre after reconstruction (2008), Wolność w systemie zniewolenia. Rozmowy o polskiej kontrkulturze [Freedom in Times of Enslavement. Conversations about Polish Counterculture], (edited together with Aldona Jawłowska, 2008), Creative Communities. She acted as coordinator of socio-artistic projects funded by European Union: HANDMADE – Culture animation: learning through practice (2008-2009); LOCALISE – Study trip as model of research, education and practice in vocational training in culture animation and community work. She was also the Polish co-ordinator of the DNA – Development of New Art (2009-2010) – a project funded by the European Union program Culture 2007-2013, 2014-2015: Residency: Developing a model of arts residency applied to civic engagement („Leonardo da Vinci”).
As an expert she worked among others for: the Cultural Office of Warsaw City Council, the Polish Ministry of Culture and the Theatre Institute in Warsaw. She curated festivals: „Theatre in Public Space” (Warsaw, 2010), “ZWYKI – Folk Theatre Festival” (Warsaw, 2011, 2013), and the exhibition „Miasto w działaniu” (Art Inkubator, Łódź, 2014), the program „Mów za siebie” (Instytut Teatralny im. Z. Raszewskiego, 2014- 2017), the artistic residency of the Plattformer collective (Residency 2015), the Akademia Ruchu Remix (2024), festival More than teatre. 60 years of Odin Teatret (2025). She is a member of the scientific board of “Teatro e Storia”. She is a member and a head of a social council of culture affiliated with the President of Warsaw.
